MAMARONECK, N.Y. Gonzalo and Eva Gasquei were dressed as Black Beard and a witch as they watched students from Pre-K to fifth grade parade around the Mamaroneck Avenue School track for the annual Halloween Parade Monday.
Gonzalo's older daughter Shaiel, 7, made a loop around the All Purpose Room with her second-grade class before proceeding outside to hundreds of parents, siblings and relatives, waiting to see all of the costumes.
"We've been here every year since our daughter started school," said Gonzalo, whose younger daughter Kharielle was dressed as Rapunzel.
Shaiel's classmate Clara Sosa, 7, was dressed as a zombie cheerleader.
"It makes it a full day event," said Sosa, a Mamaroneck resident. "The kids have so much fun. They really look forward to it, and Principal Amon gets really into it."
Carrie Amon, who acted as parade organizer and commentator, re-routed a portion of the parade inside due to Saturday's snow storm. Kids first walked with their classes to the All Purpose Room to do one lap, then exited through the rear of the building and up the stairs into the front playground, where all spectators were assembled.
For families with kindergarteners, like Daniella and Bernie Camarda, Monday was their child's first Halloween Parade. For others with fifth graders, like Renee Romanelli, it was their last.
"I love looking at all the costumes," said Romanelli's sister Debra Tormenta, who watched her niece Karissa show off her Madonna-like 80s diva costume.
Karissa's friend Kennedy Zambrano wore a pirate costume. "It's a nice, family-oriented event," said Kennedy's father John, a Mamaroneck resident.
