Mamaroneck Teen Wins Best Freshman Film Award

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Matt Wassong, of Mamaroneck High School, won the best freshman film award at the 2013 Greenwich Youth Film Festival.

Wassong’s film was titled “Unplugged”. He won $250 at the second annual event held Sunday in Greenwich. There were 32 finalist films and 17 awards given out to high school students from Fairfeld and Westchester counties for the first, second and third place winners from each of five genres: Animation, PSA, Creative, Documentary and Music Video.

Awards were also given out for Best Freshman Film and the grand prize, which was $1,000. The other four genre winners each received $500.

Actress Amanda Seyfried was the judge for the Best Freshman Film. Other judges included Melissa Joan Hart for Creative, Gretchen Carlson for PSA, Clayton Pecorin for Documentary and Steve Bartels for Music Video.

The Music Video winner also was awarded a visit to the set of an upcoming Island Def Jam Music Group music video and a private meeting at the company’s headquarters. The Creative Genre winner also was awarded the opportunity to shadow a producer on the set of an upcoming digital comedy web series for Above Average Productions, the digital division of Broadway Video.
