MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Chef Johnson and his son Lil' Johnson Jr. have thrown their chef hats into a Food Network contest for a segment on the show Eat St. and are asking Mamaroneck residents for their vote beginning Thursday.
The Johnsons, who operate out of the green Johnson Truck, brought a little taste of Louisiana to Mamaroneck's Harbor Island and the Mamaroneck Shares Block Parties this past summer. Some of their authentic cuisine includes Smoked Gouda Grilled Cheese, Real Lobster Roll, Louisiana Lobster Chowder, Mac N' Cheese Johnson, Johnson Family Chili, Johnson Jambalaya and others.
The father-son tandem submitted a minute-long video highlighting their southern draw and why Eat St. should feature them in a segment, to be aired on television or its website.
Voting is open through Jan. 31. The five videos with the highest number of votes will win the Fan Favorite award and will be eligible to win the grand prize an Eat St. segment starring their cart.
Chef Johnson hosted his own show on LMC-TV from 1999 to 2003 titled Chef Johnson . Typical episode titles were "Chef Jonson Cooks with the Dog" and "Chef Johnson cooking with Baby Johnson." The show aired about every other month.
