MAMARONECK, N.Y. – One week after its grand opening , the new Marine Education Center at Harbor Island will open for its first regular Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The special project of the Village of Mamaroneck will be open every Saturday, and other times. Whenever the flag is out, the center is open. All children, families and people of all ages are welcome to visit and learn about Long Island Sound marine life. The center houses aquariums full of live animals from Mamaroneck Harbor like fish, crabs, starfish and jellyfish.
Volunteer residents run the center, which is at the entrance to Harbor Island near the east basin village docks. Kathy and Jim Desmond and Sara Evans spear headed the effort. All exhibits are satellites of this living tool.
All monetary donations for the Marine Center’s educational operations, including “tank maintenance and supplies" are tax deductible and will go into a special village account set up by Mayor Norman Rosenblum.
