“Extra early getaway service” will begin Friday as trains depart Grand Central Terminal around noon. As a result of light ridership at night, “some trains may be canceled or combined,” according to the release.
For last minute shoppers, the MTA will have “Shoppers’ Special” service on Saturday and Sunday, which means extra trains on the Harlem, New Haven, and Hudson lines.
Christmas Eve is on a Monday, but service will operate on a “Saturday schedule with extra service” in the morning and night peak periods.
Christmas Day will see extra service throughout the day and night on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven Lines.
From Dec. 26 through Dec. 28, the MTA will be offering “plenty of extra service during the day,” according to the release.
On New Year’s Eve, the MTA “will provide a Saturday schedule with extra service in the a.m. and p.m. peak periods, as well as additional inbound trains in the late afternoon/early evening, and our traditional post-midnight late night/early morning service to get you home safely,” the release said.
Extra trains will be provided on New Year’s Day as well.
The MTA asks that you buy your train tickets in advance because they will be collected at the gate in Grand Central. You are not allowed to bring open alcohol containers onto the train.
They also offered a ticket tip for those traveling with family.
“We suggest purchasing an off-peak ten-trip ticket,” the release said. “In addition to the discount, it is transferable, so everyone can use it.”
