New Ballots Frustrate Port Chester Voters

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Tensions was high at the Park Avenue School in Port Chester on Tuesday afternoon as voters trickled in to cast their ballots for the Rye Town Council  race, Rye Town Supervisor, state Supreme Court justice and 6th district county legislator. But the tension had nothing to do with politics.

People are dissatisfied with the (voting) machines," said poll worker Silvio Buccieri. "They keep making mistakes. We have a lot of voids. They're really dissatisfied. It's dysfunctional."

Voter Jack Stark said, "We're supposed to be voting," he said, "not doing math ... Why not just be able to hit a button and vote?

While the new process was a problem, the local races were bringing out the voters. "I never saw this many this early," Buccieri said around 3 p.m. He said 112 ballots had been recorded so far in District 19, as opposed to about 70 at the same time last year. District 12 and recorded 100 votes out of about 750 registered voters.
