MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Before Marcia Holder can celebrate the holiday with family, she will have to work Thanksgiving day, as she has done all 14 years she has been at the Sarah Neuman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck.
Holder works in the kitchen and will serve breakfast and lunch, which means a 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift for the Bronx resident. However, she has gotten used to the routine over the years and enjoys sharing a Thanksgiving meal with the patients and co-workers.
"It's a nice thing, they give a beautiful lunch," she said. "After work the family meets up at my mother's house. You get to see family you haven't seen in a while."
Holder said she has a large family, with relatives coming in from as far north as Montreal, Canada and as far south as North Carolina.
