Parking Hours Extended, Trolly Rides in Larchmont

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Drivers will enjoy longer parking hours during the holiday season, said Marlene Kolbert, Larchmont trustee.

Every year, the Larchmont Traffic Commission extends parking in the business district from one hour to two hours, which is in effect now through Jan. 3.

However, residents won't have to worry about parking at all this weekend if they decide to ride the trolly train that will run through the village. The Larchmont Chamber of Commerce has arranged for trolly rides to circulate around the business district, with stops in front of the Corner Store on Chatsworth Avenue and Tequilla Sunrise on Larchmont Avenue. Rides are free if you present a receipt from a local shop.

"The business district is one of the jewels of Larchmont," said Trustee Jaine Eney. "It's important that we continue to support it. Also, gasoline is $3.50 a gallon, and why drive all the way to the mall when you can come right to your business district and shop here? I want everyone to have a happy holiday season and shop local."

The board also announced this week that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be undergoing some train station improvements in Larchmont beginning in the spring. The project, expected to last approximately two years, will improve platform access dramatically, said Mayor Josh Mandell.
