Ramp On I-95 In Mamaroneck To Close For Summer Paving

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The Thruway Authority has announced a long-term closure of the exit 18B (White Plains – Mamaroneck Avenue West) northbound on-ramp on I-95 beginning on Friday at 9 p.m.

The ramp will remain closed throughout the duration of the 2015 construction season.

Bridge and pavement repairs along the northbound on-ramp will force the closure of the exit 18B ramp that connects Mamaroneck Avenue near the Mamaroneck Reservoir to I-95 northbound.

The existing southbound on-ramp at the same location will remain open. Motorists seeking to enter I-95 northbound can continue 0.7 miles south on Mamaroneck Avenue, where they will be able to access I-95 north from a modified northbound entry ramp. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

The Thruway Authority recently gave the Village of Mamaroneck notice regarding a planned construction project that will affect traffic in and out of the village via Old White Plains Road.

The work will include upgrades to the rail and fence, removal and re-pavement of the bridge deck surface (asphalt only), with night work to sand and paint the metal portions of the structure.

Work is scheduled to start before Memorial Day, and mostly should be done around Monday, Aug. 31, with total completion by Wednesday, Sept. 30, all of which is weather permitting. All Village departments are coordinating with the Thruway Authority, and the Town of Mamaroneck has been notified as well.

The work will require the closure of one lane at a time, with a temporary traffic light controlling traffic one direction at a time across the bridge. Construction work on the bridge deck will be taking place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., typically, although there may be night-work underneath on the painting to reduce impacts on daytime I-95 traffic.
