Rapper DMX Collapses In Westchester In Apparent Overdose

YONKERS N.Y. — Mount Vernon native DMX was saved by Yonkers police Monday night after they resuscitated him outside a Yonkers Ramada Inn where he had collapsed unconscious, according to multiple reports.

The rapper reportedly wasn’t breathing and had no pulse when police arrived, according to Vibe.

Police revived the musician using the narcotic overdose antidote Narcan and he was immediately hospitalized, reports Vibe.

On Tuesday, police confirmed that first responders rushed to the hotel shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday after being alerted of an man who had collapsed and was unresponsive in the parking lot of the location. 

The rapper was treated at the scene by emergency service responders before being rushed to a local hospital, which he has since checked out of. No criminal charges have been filed.

DMX, 45, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was born in Mount Vernon and raised in Yonkers. Recently, he’s lived in Buffalo, Fort Lee and Teaneck. His career was launched in 1996 with Def Jam Recordings with the single, "Get at Me Dog.”

He’s won two Grammy awards among many others, including several for film, TV and one for a video game.

He has 12 children and was married to Tashera Simmons for 11 years until 1999. They divorced over his infidelities and repeated incarcerations. He was released from Erie County jail in October after serving time for failure to pay child support.

The artist is scheduled to perform at the Chance in Poughkeepsie on Feb. 27. He’s due in Pennsylvania for a Feb. 13 concert. There are no reports of his present condition on Feb. 9.
