MAMARONECK, N.Y. The village board of trustees agreed at its regular meeting earlier this week to reconsider bids for the Road to Nowhere project, which was previously voted down at their Nov. 7 work session.
The project, which proposes to remove the 15 to 20 feet of Glendale Road located in the Town of Harrison that extends into the Mamaroneck River, was voted down because the low bid of $36,500 by Landi Inc. was $1,500 over budget.
"The board acted last week because of concern about what the commitment was for the $35,000, based on the original estimate for the job," said Richard Slingerland, village manager.
The original estimate didn't include the costs of additional requirements, later handed down from the Town of Harrison, which approved an inter-municipal agreement for the village to proceed with the project. "Right now, we have a $54,000 project that we have $35,000 earmarked for," said Slingerland, who is exploring alternative sources of revenue to make up the difference. "They added in steel reinforced concrete, replacement of the decades old man holes to pre-cast manholes, and guard rail along the road."
Louis Santoro, village trustee, suggested the board pull money from the $25,000 earmarked for dredging and the $25,000 earmarked for manhole and catch basin reconstruction in this year's budget. The village will continue to seek assistance from Harrison to make up the difference.
The matter will be on the agenda for the board's Nov. 21 work session.
