The Department of Justice alleges that Shkreli defrauded hedge fund investors and misappropriated about $11 million in assets from his pharmaceutical company Retrophin to pay them back.

Greebel, 42, was charged with wire fraud conspiracy for his alleged part in using Retrophin funds to pay back the hedge fund investors of MSMB Capital and MSMB Healthcare.

The scheme lasted about five years, from September 2009 to September 2014, while the Retrophin misappropriation lasted just over three years, from March 2011 to September 2014, authorities allege.

If convicted, both men face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
