Some Larchmont Residents Asked To Voluntarily Evacuate

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Larchmont will enter a state of emergency at 5 p.m. Sunday, as Hurricane Sandy approaches.

Residents in low-lying areas of the village have been asked to voluntarily evacuate their homes by 9 a.m. on Monday. A shelter has been set up at Mamaroneck High School that will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday to house individuals that do not have alternate plans. Residents in low-lying areas can move their cars to Parking Lot 3 at the Larchmont Railroad Station beginning at 5 p.m.

Larchmont Mayor Anne McAndrews announced that there will be no garbage pick-up by the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Joint Sanitation Commission on Monday or Tuesday.

In Mamaroneck, the Town Center on West Boston Post Road will be closed on Monday. Due to the storm, the Hommocks Ice Rink, Hommocks Pool, the Senior Center at the VFW on Boston Post Road and Town Court will also be closed.

Both Rye Neck and Mamaroneck schools will be closed on Monday as well, the district announced on Sunday.
