MAMARONECK, N.Y. - UPDATE: The driver of the SUV was a 41-year-old Rhode Island woman, who reported that a mechanical error on the vehicle caused the accident. Her daughter, 1, was in the car, and both were taken to the hospital for a well-being check only, according to Det. Sandra DiRuzza, public information officer for the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.
A blue SUV skidded off the road while driving on Rockland Avenue about 9:30 a.m.and flipped over the fence into the Westchester Jewish Center (WJC) parking lot Thursday morning, landing on its roof.
No one was injured, and the two people in the car, a mother and child, were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Jose Luis Fonsesca, the WJC superintendent and a bystander said the two were able to walk to the ambulance.
The Toyota, which Vincent's Auto Body towed after turning it upright, crashed into a parked car in the lot, crushing the front windshield. The other car was empty. Village of Mamaroneck police responded to the scene, along with Fire Chief Chris Szymanowski, who said his assistance wasn't required.
