The New Rochelle Schools posted the good news for its residents Saturday afternoon, saying that a threatened bus strike to begin Monday, May 19 had been averted.

Although there were no details available on how the striking bus drivers, mechanics and monitors of the Mile Square Transportation company had reversed Friday's vote to strike, New Rochelle School District spokeperson Allison Gilbert said in an email to the Daily Voice that the district had posted the news about the averted strike on its website.

All busing for New Rochelle Schools will proceed as usual Monday, May 19," the email read. "We've put the news out via our social media channels and it's also posted on our website."

Friday's news that drivers and monitors would strike the Mile Square bus company would have left some of the city's students without transportation Monday, May 19.

Members of the Transport Workers Union, Local 100, that includes drivers, mechanics and matrons for Mile Square, learned Friday that their executive board had voted unanimously to strike.

Mile Square -- one the New Rochelle district's carrier --transports all bused students to the Mount Vernon schools and a smaller percent of the students in both New Rochelle and Yonkers.
