MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Two lanes are blocked on Route 1 between Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Fenimore Road due to a Con Edison project that will take a 100-year-old gas main out of service.
The road work began Monday and has no set completion date, said Tim Coyle, foreman for Persico Contracting. Con Edison, which contracted the Mt. Vernon-based construction company to trench the road, will transfer the three service lines connected to the existing 12-inch cast-iron main to a more efficient, 20-inch steel gas main across the street. That gas main is about 30 years old and will improve pressure, Coyle said.
The three service lines feed Toy Box, Pace BMW and Home Sweet Home Properties along Route 1.
