MAMARONECK, N.Y. - The additional police presence at Tuesday's village Board of Trustees meeting wasn't for enforcement, but rather, for the police awards, which honored 12 members of the Police Department.
Police officers were commended for their service during two incidents over the past year. After Mayor Norman Rosenblum read off each award, Police Chief Christopher Leahy saluted them.
"These gentlemen are some of the reasons why this village is the friendly village, a safe village, and one of the best places to live in the United States," Rosenblum said. "I salute you all."
The Honorable Service Award Class 4 was presented to Sergeant Eric Lindh and Police Officers Anthony Coletti and Gary Galvao for their response to a structure fire on 525 Halstead Ave on June 26, 2010.
Officeres Michael Viapiano, Christopher McLeod and Michael Petrillo also received the Honorable Service Award Class 4 for their roles in the arrest of two suspects on felony and misdemeanor charges related to a larceny of the Radio Shack at 305 Mamaroneck Ave. Aug. 22, 2010.
Six other officers were awarded a Command Recognition Letter for their roles in the same Aut. 22 incident. They are: Sergeant Dominick Lanza, Detective Sandra DiRuzza and Police Officers Matthieu Ricozzi, David Ballone, Juan Gonzalez and Michael Bonacci.
