MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- It's safe to go back into the water, according to a press release from the Westchester County Department of Health. The department lifted a boater and beach advisory in effect since Tuesday.
The advisory was a precaution after the West Basin pump station failed and an estimated 162,000 gallons of chlorinated sewage spewed into the Long Island Sound Monday night into Tuesday morning.
After the county department of environmental facilities fixed the failed pump next to Harbor Island Park Tuesday morning, the health department took two sets of water samples. Results showed the water met bathing beach standards, according to the press release.
