What to do This Weekend in Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- For residents looking for some fun family events this weekend, here are a few to consider.

Friday

  • From now until March 1, Phuse, a local social-action club at Mamaroneck High School, is collecting school supplies for an impoverished Native American reservation in South Dakota. Collection boxes are stationed in Mamaroneck High School and Stephanie's Kloset, at 1967 Palmer Ave. Phuse has partnered up with The Lakota Pine Ridge Children's Enrichment Project to collect school supplies like spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, graph paper calculators, rulers, pens, pencils, markers, scissors, and of course backpacks. Other materials like sports equipment, shoes and books would be great to donate as well, they said.
  • "Next To Normal" makes its New York regional premiere at the Westchester Sandbox Theatre Friday at 8 p.m. The rock musical, which debuted on Broadway in 2009, is an emotional powerhouse of a musical about a family trying to take care of themselves and each other. It has won three Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. There are performances on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m., Feb. 26 at 3 p.m., March 2 at 8 p.m. and March 3 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for students or seniors. Call 914.630.0804 for tickets or visit the Westchester Sandbox Theatre website. Parental discretion is advised.

Saturday

Sunday

  • Atka the Arctic wolf will be returning to the Mamaroneck Library on Sunday at 2 p.m. for an encore presentation in the Emelin Theatre. He was last at the library Dec. 4. The Friends of the Mamaroneck Library will be bringing him back for an encore appearance at the Emelin Theatre, which will accommodate a larger crowd. The program will start with a slide show about understanding wolves, after which the main attraction will be brought out onto the stage. Admission is free. Visit the Wolf Conservation Center's homepage for more information.
