LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Here's a look at events happening around Larchmont this week, including government meetings and community happenings. See our events listings for more.

Monday, April 2

Larchmont Environmental Committee Meeting: 9 a.m. This committee will meet in the conference room in village hall, 120 Larchmont Ave.

Larchmont–Mamaroneck Senior Center Art Show: All day. This is the 39th annual exhibit featuring the works of 25 seniors attending the art class led by artist and instructor Patricia Sutherland. Artwork, which includes oils, watercolor, acrylic, pastels and graphic pencil, will be hung in the Orseman Gallery throughout April.

Larchmont Board of Trustees Meeting: 7 p.m. The board will hold a public hearing on the preliminary 2012-13 budget. But first on the agenda is the swearing in ceremony for the newly elected mayor and two trustees. Then, mayor-elect Anne McAndrews will appoint a licensing officer, deputy mayor, alternates to Larchmont-Mamaroneck Joint Sanitation Commission and liaison trustees. She will also appoint, with the approval of the board:

  • Village Attorney for a term of one year
  • Village Treasurer for a term of two years
  • Deputy Village Treasurer for a term of one year
  • Village Clerk for a term of two years
  • Deputy Village Clerk & Deputy Registrar for a term of one year
  • Village Assessor for a term of one year
  • Police Surgeon and Prosecutors for the coming year

Tuesday, April 3

Stories and Tales: 2:15 p.m. This interactive story time at the Larchmont Library helps foster children's interest in literacy through fun stories and interesting tales. There is another session at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Registration is not required. This program is for ages 3 and 4 and a parent or caregiver must attend.

Stories 'N' More: 4 p.m. Up for a story, a craft or both? Join the Larchmont Library Children's Room staff for Stories 'N' More, appropriate for ages 5 to 7.

Mamaroneck School Board Study Session: 7:30 p.m. The board will continue their discussion of the recommended 2012-13 budget.

Larchmont Traffic Commission Meeting: 8 p.m. This committee will meet in the in the conference in village hall, 120 Larchmont Ave.

Wednesday, April 4

Young and Restless: 10:30 a.m. The Larchmont Library presents an early literacy program for toddlers (ages 1 1/2 - 3) and babies (ages 3 months - 1 1/2). The toddler program begins at 10:30 a.m. and the baby program begins at 11:15 a.m.

Mamaroneck Town Board Work Session/Meeting: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. The board will hold a work session in conference room C to review the costs to the Westchester Joint Water Works of filtering water out of Rye Lake, as mandated by New York State. Following the work session, the board will reconvene for its regular meeting at 8 p.m. in the courtroom. The board will consider authorizing a $5,000 transfer to the capitol plan budget for the replacement of one police car, which it estimated to be $30,000. The vehicle costs $35,000.

Improvolympics: 7:30 p.m. The Improvolympics is a performing arts fundraiser hosted by Mamaroneck High School's PACE program, in which students, faculty, alumni and parents form teams and compete in dance, music and theater improvisation. The funds will go toward the purchase of a new dance floor for the PACE classroom. PACE Theatre, Mamaroneck High School. 

Larchmont Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting: 8 p.m. The board will consider five applications in the conference room of Village Hall, 120 Larchmont Ave.

Thursday, April 5

Larchmont Parks and Trees Committee Meeting: 9 a.m. This committee will meet in the conference room in village hall, 120 Larchmont Ave.

Guilty Conscience Book Group: 7 p.m. Discuss Kurt Vonnegut's “Slaughterhouse–five” with the Guilty Conscience Book Group, led by Liam Hegarty, reference librarian at the Larchmont Library. Here is a list of the books read by the Guilty Conscience Book Group and its nonfiction–reading counterpart, The Stranger than Fiction Book Group since they began in 2002. Larchmont Library, 121 Larchmont Ave.
