What's Happening in Larchmont This Week

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Here's a look at events happening around Larchmont this week, including government meetings and community happenings. See our events listings for more events.

Monday

Larchmont Beautification Meeting: 9:30 a.m. This volunteer committee meets the second Monday of the month and is responsible for street flowers and flower pots, the Haigney Memorial Garden and for making annual Beautification Awards to local stores for holiday decorating.

Green Screen Film Festival: 7:30 p.m. Carbon Nation will be shown at the Mamaroneck Town Center, Conference Room C. George Klein, Sierra Club activist, will speak after. Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 W Boston Post Road.

Tuesday

The Book and the Movie: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Film critic Robert Goldstone will lead a discussion on the book and movie "Show Boat (1951)", followed by a screening. Copies of the book will be available in the library. The Larchmont Village Center is behind the library, 120 Larchmont Ave. 

A Day in the Life of Larchmont Photo Exhibit: 12:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays in March. The resident-generated photos from the Larchmont Historical Society's Oct. 20, 2011 Photo Project are on display at Larchmont Art, Custom Framing, at 1899 Palmer Ave.

Hommocks Sports Interest Meeting: 7 p.m. There will be a sports interest meeting for students at 2:45 p.m. followed by a parents sports information meeting at 7 p.m. at the Hommocks.

Mamaroneck Town Recreation Commission: 7:30 p.m. This commission meets on the second Tuesday of the month and reviews and recommends recreation programs, activities and the development or expansion of facilities. VFW, 1280 W Boston Post Road.

Wednesday

Over 40 Females Networking Luncheon: 11:30 a.m. Guest speaker Cathy Wilke will talk about "Creating Strategic Alliances" at Plates Restaurant. Lunch will be $25 for members and $35 for non-members. RSVP to Phyllis, chapter director, at nyover40females@aol.com.

Mamaroneck Town Planning Board Meeting: 8 p.m. This board meets the second Wednesday of the month and reviews plans for the development of vacant areas, streets and parks. It also reviews permits for subdivisions, site plans, freshwater wetlands and special usesMamaroneck Town Center, Conference Room C.

Thursday

School Superintendent's Conference Day: There is no school for students.

Pop Art, Cereal Box Collage Family Workshop: 11 a.m. Michael Albert, artist and author of "An Artist's America", will show your children, ages 5 and up, how to turn your junk into a modern pop art collage. Bring empty cereal boxes and register in person or by calling (914)834-2281. Larchmont Library, 120 Larchmont Ave.
