What's Happening in Mamaroneck This Weekend

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The Mamaroneck Tigers opening day, a Taste of Larchmont with the Chamber of Commerce and a Larchmont surgeon's film screening are some of the events planned for this weekend.

Friday, March 30

• Into the Woods – 7 p.m., benefit for the Sheldrake Environmental Center, featuring a silent auction and raffle. Prizes include a week in Vail, Colo.; Broadway tickets; diamond jewelry; golf at Willow Ridge; spa services; and more. Gail Boyle, principal at Chatsworth Avenue School, will be honored, in addition to four other people. The benefit includes cocktails and a light dinner. Tickets are $100. The event is at the Bonnie Briar Country Club, 808 Weaver St., Larchmont. 

Saturday, March 31

• Opening Day and BBQ – 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Mamaroneck High School. Spring sports begin with a 12-hour day of sports. The baseball and lacrosse teams will be in action. Additionally, a barbecue lunch and dinner will be hosted by the girls and boys lacrosse teams. Junior varsity boys lacrosse and varsity baseball take on Ardsley at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. Then, JV and varsity girls lacrosse take on Sleepy Hollow at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Finally, varsity boys lacrosse takes on Fox Lane at 7 p.m.

• Mamaroneck Indoor Farmers Market – 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. This winter famers market is held every Saturday through May 19 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 168 W. Boston Post Road. 

• "Willy Wonka" – 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Westchester Sandbox Theatre. This version of the classic book-turned-movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" will be performed by a cast of adults and teens for children and their families. Performances are Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at noon. Tickets are $10. The Westchester Sandbox Theatre is at 931 E. Boston Post Road.

• "Nearly Lear" – 8 p.m., Emelin Theatre. The New York Times calls "Nearly Lear" "a frisky funny tantalizing introduction to the lifelong pleasures of Shakespeare." This adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy turns it on its head, using exuberant storytelling, music and film. Tickets are $34, $17 for students. The Emelin Theatre is at 153 Library Lane.

Sunday, April 1

• Emelin Theatre Marks 30 Years – 11 a.m. The Emelin Theatre celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Bluegrass Concert Series with a Bluegrass Brunch at the Beach Point Club. Since the series was founded by J. Jay Mautner and the late Doug Tuchman, the Emelin has earned a reputation among artists and audiences alike as one of the best bluegrass venues in the Northeast. The Westchester Bluegrass Boys will perform. For tickets, click here. The Beach Point Club is at 900 Rushmore Ave.

• "Willy Wonka" – Noon, Westchester Sandbox Theatre, 931 E. Boston Post Road. Tickets are $10.
