POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. - Dante L. Gismondi, M.D. of Pompton Plains, formerly of Harrison, died Sept. 12. He was 77.
Dr. Gismondi was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Uniontown, Pa., son of Dante and Rose (Saggese) Gismondi. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He received a B.A. from Columbia College, Columbia University in New York City and an M.D. degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases at the Bronx V.A. Hospital. His residency was interrupted by two years of active military service as captain in the United States Air Force at Scott AFB, Ill., from 1963 to 1965. He entered into a partnership with Joseph T. Paglia, M.D., a fellow resident, friend and colleague with whom he practiced in Mamaroneck, until his retirement in January 2001. He was attending physician at United Hospital Medical Center, Port Chester from 1969 to 2001.
Dr. Gismondi is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Gismondi; nieces, nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and longtime friend George L. Siegel. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Michael R. Gismondi and Gerald A. Gismondi; nephew, Thomas E. Gismondi; and friend, Donald G. Cleary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville. Entombment at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown.
