Dr. Ralph L. Gentile, Longtime Larchmont Resident, 73

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Dr. Ralph Louis Gentile, a resident of Larchmont for 52 years, died Saturday. He was 73.

Gentile was born on June 14, 1931, in Brooklyn, to Vincent and Rose Sarola Gentile.

 

He graduated St. Francis Prep in Brooklyn and St. Francis College. He went on to graduate the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in New York in 1956.

He did his surgical residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York from 1956-57, became an assistant resident at Harford Hospital in Hartford, Conn., from 1957-58, an associate resident at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx from 1958-60 and chief resident at Montefiore from 1960-61.

Gentile's career in private practice in the Bronx spanned over 50 years from 1961 to 2012. Gentile was also a former governor of the American College of Surgeons. Ralph had abundant interests for learning and exploring.

His wife, Teresa, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1957, died Aug. 29, 1988. 

Gentile is survived by two sons, Michael Gentile and wife Stephanie Wilson Gentile of Short Hills, N.J., David Gentile and wife Susan Wong Gentile of Pittsford, N.Y.; one daughter, Patricia Gentile Dong and husband Paul Dong of Yorktown Heights and four grandchildren, Kevin and Christine Dong of Yorktown Heights and Matthew and Kathryn Gentile of Pittsford, N.Y.

He was the brother of Mary Gentile.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road Rye, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints John and Paul Church in Larchmont on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
