Elizabeth Halliday, 78, Former Larchmont Resident

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Elizabeth "Biffy" Dwelle Halliday, formerly of Larchmont, died Saturday, March 12. She was 78.

She was born Sept. 28, 1937, in Stamford, Conn., to Hazel Elizabeth and Vernon Averell Dwelle. After losing her mother as a very young girl, she was raised by her father and lived much of her childhood on the grounds of Stamford's King School, where her father was headmaster and a teacher at the all-boys school. 

A graduate of Low-Heywood School in 1954 and Skidmore College in 1958, she worked as a computer programmer before meeting and marrying Walter F. Halliday Jr., who died in 2012 after 50 years of marriage. She was involved in her community, including her longtime volunteer work with Swim Across America, Larchmont Junior Soccer League and Harrison Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her children, Liz Coco (Mike) of Warrington, Pa., Linda Martin (and former spouse Tim) of New Rochelle, Jim Halliday (Kathleen Devine) of Cranbury, N.J., Laura Monzon (Rob) of Lancaster, Pa., and Sue Kapllani (George) of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Emily, Abby and Julia Coco, Brian, Tim and Kevin Martin, Zach, Kevin and Nick Halliday, Tyson, Rebecca and Danielle Monzon, and newborn twins, Jack and Siena Kapllani; great-grandchildren Syriana and Niko Monzon; and “adopted through love” grandson Quinton Witherspoon.

Her only sibling, Edwin (Ned) Dwelle, predeceased her in 1992.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. A funeral service will take place Thursday, March 17, at 10 a.m. at Harrison Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Kensico Cemetery.
