Herbert King Spear, 95, Longtime Mamaroneck Resident

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Herbert "Beazy" King Spear, a longtime resident of Mamaroneck, died on Monday, Dec. 14. He was 95.

He was born to Abraham and Etta Spear on Aug.1, 1920. He grew up on New York City’s Upper West Side. He attended the Barnard School for Boys from kindergarten through high school, and he graduated in 1938. 

Spear went into his family’s retail store business, H. King & Co. During World War II, Spear served in the Marines as a drill sergeant. In 1948, he married Patricia Sternberg Spear and a few years later moved to Mamaroneck. 

Spear was predeceased by his brother George, and his ex-wife, Pat.

He is survived by his brother, Franklin; his girlfriend, Roni; his four daughters, Caryn, Etta, Barbara, Susan; 10 grandchildren, Mark, Cory, Craig, Ciara, Rachel, David, Aaron, Isaac, AJ, and Jill; and eight great-grandchildren.
