LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Joan Hills Faulkner of Larchmont died Oct. 2. She was 81.
Faulkner was born May 6, 1932, in New York, N.Y., daughter of George S. Hills and Alice Shaw Hills. She grew up in New Rochelle. She attended Thornton-Donovan Primary School and Rye Country Day School and graduated from Wheaton College in 1953. Soon after marriage she moved to Larchmont with her husband where they raised four children.
She was active in the community, serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library, president of the Hommocks PTA, president of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck P-T Council, president of the Junior League of Larchmont, and in many other capacities. During her 10 years as library chairman, she oversaw a number of significant initiatives, including the major expansion and upgrade of the library’s facilities that was completed in 1995.
Faulkner is survived by her sons, John and Andy both of New York and George of Pleasantville; daughter, Susan of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter T. Faulkner.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Larchmont Ave. Church.
