Joseph W. Moran, 86, Longtime Larchmont Resident, Consulting Actuary

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Joseph W. Moran, BS, MAAA, FSA, BSI, ASH, longtime resident of Larchmont, died Feb. 18. He was 86.

Moran was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Charles F. and Mary (Gans) Moran, he graduated from Yale in 1949, Phi Beta Kappa. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1947, and served in Air Force ROTC while at Yale. He retired from a 43-year actuarial career at New York Life Insurance Co. in 1992, and continued work as consulting actuary.

He was a longtime member volunteer and former trustee of the Larchmont Avenue Church. He served with the Association of Yale Alumni for decades. He joined Orienta Beach Club in 1957, remaining a member for life. In the 1980's, he joined multiple Sherlockian societies in the New York metropolitan area, including the Baker Street Irregulars and the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes.

Moran is survived by his brother, Richard T. Moran of Wyoming, Ohio; step-mother, Eliner Moran of Cape Coral, Fla.; children, Douglas (Laura) of Denver, Colo., Kathleen of Minneapolis, Minn., Clifford of Ridgefield, Conn.; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church, 60 Forest Park Ave., Larchmont. Reception to follow in the church hall.
