Castagna was born in 1929 to Fred and Rose Degina.
She volunteered and worked every summer for the Village of Mamaroneck Summer Camp. She served as a board member for 10 years and worked at several positions in the Rye Neck School District. She was a member of the G.I. Civic Auxiliary and was active in St. Vito’s parish, belonging to the St. Ann’s Guild and the parish council and ran the kitchen for the St. Vito’s Festa. She was a longtime district leader for the Republican Party.
Castagna is survived by her children, Anthony Castagna (Barbara) of Harrison and Kim Russo (Paul) of Bridgewater; four grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews; cousins; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Herman “Mondy” Castagna; and brothers, Fred and Buddy Degina.
Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Vito’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Castagna’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
