Mervyn H. 'Bud' Connor Jr., 89, Lifelong Mamaroneck Resident

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mervyn H. "Bud" Connor Jr. died Tuesday, Sept 8. 

Connor was born May 19, 1926 to Stella and Mervyn Connor, and was a lifelong resident of Mamaroneck. 

He graduated from Bellows High School in 1944 and served in the merchant marine at the end of World War II. 

He was in the first graduating class of the New York State Institute of Art and Science and majored in building. He was an old-school finish carpenter and was an active member of the Carpenters Union Local 543 and rose to the rank of president before he retired. 

He married Lorraine Karr in 1955. 

He volunteered as an emergency medical technician with the Port Chester/Rye Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was one of the founding members of Most Holy Trinity Fife and Drum Corps. 

He loved to travel and spent his retirement traveling the country in his RV. He was an avid reader and would love to debate on any topic. 

His wife died in 1990.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry (Tim) Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., Kerry (Wooda) McNiven of Simsbury, Conn., and Gerri Connor of Mamaroneck, who cared for her dad for many years; two grandchildren, TJ and Kele Jackson; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Edward (Jack) Connor of Huntsville, Ala. 

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Shipley and Barbara Mallin. 

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. 

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mamaroneck Historical Society at P.O. Box 776, Mamaroneck, NY 10543 would be appreciated.
