Michael A. Acocella Jr., Former Town Of Mamaroneck Fire Chief, 76

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Michael A. Acocella Jr., a Mamaroneck resident who was a former town of Mamaroneck fire chief, passed away Tuesday. He was 76.

He was born in New Rochelle to Angelina Gugielmo and Michele Acocella.

He was predeceased in 2006 by his wife Carol, whom he married Dec. 12, 1959.

Acocella graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army until 1961. Acocella was an active member of the town of Mamaroneck fire department for more than 60 years, serving as chief from 1975-1976 and again in 1991. Acocella was active in the Mamaroneck Elks Lodge #1457 and The Knights of Columbus Mamaroneck Council 2247.

Acocella is survived by his children Michael J. Acocella and Sharon Acocella, as well as his granddaughter and "Little Princess" Jennifer Sweeney. He also is survived by sisters Josephine Marino of New Rochelle, Nettie Villamagna of Midlothian, Va., brother Ben Acocella and sister-in-law Grace of New Rochelle.

He was predeceased by his sister Connie Romanello (1972). 

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vito's Church in Mamaroneck. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.
