Grainger was born April 9, 1931, in Harrison, to Ruth and Ludwig Okon. Formerly of Mamaroneck, she retired with her husband to Ocala, Fla., and spent the last years of her life at Maplewood Assisted Living in Danbury, Conn. She graduated from Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx as a registered nurse and went back to private-duty nursing after bringing up her children.
Grainger is survived by her children, Richard Grainger (Kathy), John Grainger (Mary), Robert Grainger, Alice Lombardozzi (Joseph) and Carol Anderson (Bill); 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Grainger; and daughter, Mary Grainger.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, 914-698-5968. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Most Holy Trinity Church followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
