Susan Congdon, 94, Longtime Mamaroneck Resident

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Longtime Mamaroneck resident Susan Congdon (Insardi) died on Thursday, May 5. She was 94.

Born in Colfelice, Italy, Congdon came to the U.S. with her parents and older siblings in 1922. 

A graduate of Mamaroneck High School and Westchester Business School, Congdon was employed by the firm of Klein, Hinds & Finke, N.Y. for seven years. 

She also worked as both a typist and secretary for Mamaroneck Schools, retiring in 2006 after 37 years of service.

She was inducted into the Mamaroneck High School Hall of Fame in 2006 as an associate member. 

She is survived by six children: Michael and his wife, Michele Alth, Laurie and her husband, George Smith, Stephen and his wife, Pamela Stone, Noel and her husband, John McGee, James and his wife, Pamela Smith, and Robert and his wife, Leslie Hunt, 10 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild.

She also is survived by sister, Amelia Paonessa.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Congdon, siblings Antoinette DiBuono, Assunta Albino, Albert Insardi, two step-children, Carol and Alan one step-grandchild and one step-great grandchild. 

Visitation is Wednesday, May 11, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, in Mamaroneck.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Vito's Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery. 

Memorial donations can be sent to St. Vito's Church or to Lighthouse for the Blind.
