MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- A 37-year-old California wine collector was convicted of fraud or shipping counterfeit wine to Mamaroneck as part of a $1.3 billion scheme to sell fake wine, according to a report from LoHud .
Rudy Kurniawan was convicted of mail and wire fraud after the jury deliberated for less than two hours in U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Dec. 18, according to the report. Prosecutors said Kurniawan made millions of dollars from 2004 to 2012 by manufacturing fake vintage wine in his Arcadia, Calif., kitchen, some of which was shipped cross-country to the New York area, including Mamaroneck and New York City, according to the report.
Kurniawan could receive up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 24, according to the report.
