At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, first responders were dispatched to a Summerfield Street home in the north end of town, where people were reportedly trapped in a hstructure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported that there was heavy smoke billowing from the structure, and they determined a woman was unable to escape from a second-floor window.
According to officials, personnel immediately went to work using ground ladders to remove the victim as other crews knocked down the fire.
An undisclosed number of firefighters suffered minor injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. They were treated by the Eastchester EMS. Firefighters in New Rochelle were on hand during the fire.
