LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Larchmont psychiatrist Dr. Martin L. Korn of 88 West Garden Road has been charged with three counts of criminal sale of prescriptions for controlled substances, the district attorney announced.

Korn has been accused of selling drug prescriptions for various controlled substances with little patient examination or consultation.

After a six-month long investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) it was found the average time a patient would spend in the doctor’s office was less than 10 minutes, officials said.

Korn’s initial and follow-up assessments fell significantly below "acceptable community standards of medical and psychiatric practice as the history obtained was insufficient to make a reasoned or judicious treatment decision," the D.A. said.

Korn was charged after numerous transactions were made between the doctor and undercover officers, law enforcement officials said.

The prescriptions were for controlled substances such as Clonazepam, Lorazepam, Zaleplon, Lunesta, Adderal,Zolpidem, Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Diazepam, Xanax, Ritalin, Ambien and Valium, the district attorney said.

DEA spokesperson Erin Mulvey told The Daily Voice Korn faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in state prison on each of the counts.

Mulvey said Korn is under an Immediate Suspension of Registration order, which bars him from writing prescriptions for controlled substances.

“To have a medical professional, who is bound by an oath to adhere to the highest moral, ethical, and legal principles and fully aware of the power of these controlled substances abusing his privileges, is a total betrayal of his profession," District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in a statement.

The investigation, according to the DEA, was performed by the DA's office and the DEA’s Tactical Diversion Squad (Group TDS-NY) comprised of agents and officers from the U.S. DEA, the New York City Police Department, Town of Orangetown Police Department and Westchester County Police Department, along with the Town of Mamaroneck Police, Harrison Police and the New York State Police.

According to the DA's office, additional charges are expected.

Korn was arraigned and bail was set at $1,500 cash over $5,000 bond. His next court date is Sept. 9 in the Town of Mamaroneck.
