This initiative will focus on drivers who are operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, the village police department said in a news release.

"The purpose of this initiative is to reduce the number of intoxicated persons behind the wheel of automobiles, reduce the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes and to promote DWI prevention as a public priority," Lt. "The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department hopes this initiative brings awareness to the dangers of driving under the influence and assists in keeping both drivers and the community safer."
