Police: Man, 19, Provided Alcohol, Sexually Abused Child In Hudson Valley

A 19-year-old is behind bars after being charged by state police with providing alcohol to a child he sexually abused.

State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks received a complaint on May 17 of possible sexual abuse in the town of Hyde Park. Investigation revealed that Jason A. Rugar of Hyde Park sexually abused a child less than 14 years of age and provided the victim with an alcoholic beverage, according to state police.

Rugar was arrested on May 21 and charged with aggravated sexual abuse, a Class D felony, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful dealing with a child, both class A misdemeanors.

Rugar was arraigned before the town of Hyde Park Court, and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim, and granted by the court.
