The 80 new officers welcomed during a ceremony in Elizabeth include 33 New Jerseyans, 46 New Yorkers and an officer relocating from Florida, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.
The diverse group also includes nine recruits with prior military service, he said.
Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye, Chief Security Officer Thomas Belfiore and PAPD Supt. Michael Fedorko welcomed the graduates.
The Port Authority Police Department is responsible for protecting major area airports, tunnels and bridges --including the George Washington Bridge -- as well as seaports and the PATH system. The PAPD also patrols the World Trade Center site.
