Marie Dunn suffered a broken pelvis and head trauma, according to someone close to the family. She was airlifted from the accident scene by medivac helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in “extremely critical condition," according to Town of Carmel police.

Both sides of Dunn's skull were broken and there was bleeding on and in the brain, according to the person who contacted Daily Voice on Wednesday. Dunn, 49, received immediate neurosurgery and is in an induced coma, possibly for three to seven days. "However, she will be okay, she's a fighter,'' Daily Voice was told.

According to the Putnam County Courier, Dunn was struck by a Jeep operated by Eileen Heinz, 75, of Lake Carmel, in the north end of the shopping plaza off of Route 52.

A customer service employee at ShopRite confirmed that Dunn worked as a cashier at the Carmel supermarket.

Carmel Police Chief Mike Cazzari told The Courier that the driver of the Jeep said she did not see Dunn walk in front of her vehicle.

No tickets or charges were filed against Heinz by police.

Putnam County Sheriff's deputies were called to assist Carmel police.
