WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Three teenagers have been charged Thursday after a 15-year-old boy from Mamaroneck was attacked, beaten and robbed near the Mamaroneck train station during the evening rush hour Wednesday.

A gang of about 15 teenagers were involved in the assault on the boy before stealing his cell phone, according to police.

The three suspects, all charged with second-degree robbery, are from New Rochelle and are ages 14, 16 and 17. Their names were not released.

Late Wednesday, Sgt. Sandra DiRuzza, a spokeswoman with the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, said that police have several suspects in New Rochelle and that charges were pending.

DiRuzza said police received a 911 call at about 5:45 P.M. Wednesday regarding an assault that had just occurred.

Mamaroneck police officers responded to the caller’s location which was the upper ramp of the Mamaroneck Train Station (southbound side).

Once on scene, police officers determined the assault had occurred on Andrew Street in the Village of Mamaroneck. As a police officer was speaking with the mother of the victim, the officer observed several possible suspects flee the location in multiple directions--some via the northbound train tracks.

Metro-North was notified to temporarily suspend train service.

Town of Mamaroneck Police responded to assist in a canvass of the location. Westchester County Aviation Unit responded to help in an aerial search.

A preliminary investigation has revealed the 15-year-old male victim from Mamaroneck Village was walking on Andrew Street when he was approached by a large group (approximately 15 teenagers) unknown to him, police said. According to the police, the group surrounded the victim and began assaulting him and then took his cell phone before leaving the area. The teen sustained minor injuries, police said.

The suspects from New Rochelle were detained, police said.

'Meredith Daniels, a spokeswoman for Metro-North railroad, said, "We were assisting Mamaroneck PD. They were pursuing a number of people who wound up on our tracks near Mamaroneck station."

Daniels added: "We needed to de-energize the tracks between Mamaroneck and Harrison. This caused delays as it was peak PM rush."

Some train delays continued until about 10 p.m. on the New Haven train lines, officials said.
