According to a report by LoHud.com, the house belonged to Michael Cherkasky, former chairman of the state Commission on Public Integrity.
Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Pelham crews responded to the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
According to Larchmont fire captain John Caparelli, four contractors were working on a kitchen renovation in the home. The chemical the contractors were using to strip the cabinets in the kitchen was flammable and may have caused the fire.
It has not been verified whether the contractors were licensed.
Despite the fire being contained to the kitchen, the room above the kitchen was damaged, and other parts of the house suffered smoke and water damage. The home is considered a loss and the owners will have to move, according to Caparelli.
Over 100 firefighters were on the scene. No firefighters were injured in battling the blaze.
