Firefighter Richard LaPeruta was suspended Friday after allegedly making the post days earlier, according to lohud.com, which reported that the firefighter made more than $139,000 in 2016 while working in Fire Station 6 on Oak Street.
The main text of the alleged post was focused on the Yonkers Fire Department's firefighter testing, according to lohud.com, which reported that LaPeruta, a veteran firefighter, also is accused of posting an image of an ape and comparing it to a black child.
While expressing his "outrage" at the department's current situation, Mayor Mike Spano said LaPeruta "discredited and disrespected" all fire officials, according to lohud.com, which reported that an aid to Spano said the city would likely seek to have LaPeruta terminated.
