The police department has exhausted all options as they seek answers regarding four separate incidents this month where suspects burglarized or attempted to break into Bronxville homes.

According to Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale, “the department is utilizing every available resource to identify suspects and to increase patrols.” Additionally, dedicated officers and equipment from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the District Attorney’s office have been enlisted to assist in the investigation.

“We have extended the evening and overnight shifts by four hours to double the number of officers on patrol,” he said. “We are working closely with the neighboring jurisdictions, which have experienced similar cases during the same time period. We share the concern regarding the recent crimes and remain fully committed to resolving the cases.”

On Sunday, May 10, shortly before midnight, a Governors Road home was burglarized after the suspects gained entry to the unoccupied home by breaking into a second story window. Then, on Saturday, May 16, at 10:58 p.m., a resident in a Summit Avenue home were victimized when the assailants again broke into a second story window, with the “homeowner (being) accosted by two subjects dressed in dark clothing.

Then, on Thursday morning, a Sunnybrae Place alarm was activated at 3 a.m., and an occupied Homesdale property was burglarized at some point before 6 a.m., with the suspects gaining access through an unlocked door.

Satriale made note that none of the cases involved weapons, though the Summit Avenue resident had his vision obscured by a bright flashlight in the darkness. On Tuesday, the New York State Crime Stoppers offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to information that leads to an arrest in this case.

With the long holiday weekend upcoming, Satriale has warned residents to take every precaution – even if they stay home – and is continuing to ask residents with surveillance cameras in the area to submit the footage for the police to evaluate. He added that the community has been on alert since the burglaries started, with officers responding to an increased number of calls for suspicious activity.

“Please continue to activate your alarm systems at all times and report suspicious activity to the police,” he said. “We encourage you to employ all crime-deterrent measures available, including the use of motion sensing lights on the exterior of homes, leaving interior lights on during the evening, use of surveillance cameras and securing valuables out of plain view from doors and windows.”
