The Scarsdale Police Department was notified of an allegedly intoxicated man who was driving in the vicinity of the village near midnight on Sunday night. Once given the description of the vehicle, officers tracked down the driver, 51-year-old Craig Pearson of Yonkers, near the intersection of Old Lyme Road and Normandy Lane, prompting a traffic stop.

Police said that during the subsequent stop, Pearson told the officers that he and his husband had just gotten into an altercation, though he was unable to provide any details, or explain exactly what had happened.

During the stop, officers said that Pearson was “unable to answer very simple questions,” and detected the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Officers had Pearson exit the vehicle, and he proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. When attempting to take a breathalyzer test, Pearson was unable to provide a breath sample, and had to be told by the officers that he wasn’t blowing into the device.

Pearson was brought into custody and processed at Scarsdale Police Headquarters. Police said he failed to answer multiple questions during the suicide screening and was emotional throughout. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and cited for refusing to take the breath test. Pearson is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
