Westchester Man Had Hundreds Of Pounds Of Stolen Copper Wire, Police Say

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A Yonkers man was arrested with hundreds of pounds of stolen copper wire from Con Edison in Greenburgh after being stopped for a routine traffic stop.

New York State Police stopped and arrested Yonkers resident Nicholas Mpounas for possessing more than 500 pounds of stolen copper wire.

On Tuesday, New York State Police announced that Nicholas Mpounas, 67, was arrested on a felony charge of criminal possession of stolen property after being stopped on the Sprain Brook Parkway while driving in Greenburgh.

According to police, Mpounas was pulled over for a traffic stop, when he was found in possession of more than 500 pounds of copper cable wires in his vehicle, which was owned by Con Ed.

Mpounas was arrested and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in Greenburgh Town Court on Friday, Jan. 27.
