MAMARONECK, N.Y. Jennifer Bienstock-Cohen will be challenging Democratic incumbent Daniel Gallagher for his seat as one of two Village of Mamaroneck judges in the November election, according to local Republicans.
Maryanne Genovese, chairwoman of the villages Republican Committee, said Bienstock-Cohen was selected by the 26-member committee for her experience and contributions to the community.
An attorney for more than 25 years in New York, Bienstock-Cohen currently serves on the village Recreation and Parks Commission. She also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care and was on the Principals Advisory Committee in the Rye Neck school district.
Its the next logical step for me for involvement in the community, Bienstock-Cohen said of her decision to run. I am committed to the community and bringing my skills sets as a litigator to provide efficient, fair and impartial dispensation of justice while continuing to streamline the process for everyone.
While she is running on the Republican slate, Bienstock-Cohen was quick to point out that since justice is nonpartisan she does not believe party politics should play a role in judicial or local government races.
We are dealing with local issues, and not a national agenda, and as a judicial candidate, I strongly feel people should vote for the person, she said.
Village judges serve two-year terms. Election Day is Nov. 6.
