If the recently defeated presidential candidate does run, she will be facing current Mayor Bill de Blasio, who served as her campaign chairman during her run for the U.S. Senate, according to the Times Ledger.

Clinton, who was well-liked as a New York senator, easily trounced president-elect Donald Trump in New York where she received more than 1.7 million votes than Trump, reported the International Business Times.

The former first lady is being urged by “major Democratic donors and leaders” to challenge de Blasio, according to multiple unnamed sources, John Gizzi, White House correspondent for Newsmax, told the Washington Times.

According to state law, the Chappaqua resident would need to be a resident of New York City by Election Day in order to run, the Washington Times added.

If she does decide to run, Clinton would potentially be facing nine other Democrats who are considering a run, along with Republican billionaire John Catsimatidis, said the Washington Times.

A run would also strain her relationship with de Blasio. The two have supported each other in numerous races. However, Clinton has reportedly distanced herself from the current mayor after he gave her a lackluster endorsement for president, reported the International Business Times.

A Mayor Clinton wouldn’t be unprecedented as many failed presidential candidates have gone on to other political careers including Secretary of State John Kerry and John McCain who remains a U.S. senator, to name just a few, said the International Business Times.

So far Clinton is mum on the topic, but the Times Ledger reports that with Bill De Blasio in a weakened position, she could be in a good position to win.
