WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- State Sen. George Latimer (D-Rye) is the choice of the Westchester Democrats to run for county executive, though County Legislator Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) has vowed to fight on.

Latimer had 70 percent of the vote from the party following the county convention at the Westchester County Center on Friday in the race to challenge County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Mount Pleasant) who is running for a third term.

"I am honored and humbled to accept the Democratic nomination for Westchester County Executive," said Latimer. "I want to thank county Democratic leaders, members of the various local committees and our entire coalition of supporters for their hard work and their trust in me as we move forward to victory in November."

Despite the defeat, Jenkins has said he will continue on, forcing a primary which will be held in September.

"If Donald Trump taught us anything, it is that more Democrats need to be a part of the process," Jenkins said. "Let's let the voters decide."

David Spano, son of former County Executive Andrew Spano, has also said he will be on the ballot in the September primary.
