Donald Trump's Leaked Tax Return Postmarked From Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - The source responsible for leaking two pages of President Donald Trump’s tax returns that were revealed on national TV on Tuesday may have ties to Westchester County, according to an NBC report.

With many waiting for the Bedford estate owner to disclose tax information as his predecessors before him, Trump saw two pages from his 2005 federal tax returns become public.

According to NBC, investigative reporter Cay Johnston - who runs dcreport.org and revealed some of the details of the income tax return on MSNBC Tuesday night - told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that a plain envelope containing the returns arrived at his home on Monday postmarked from Westchester County, but without a specific address or name of a municipality in the postmark.

During his presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly vowed to release details from his tax returns, but has steadfastly refused to acquiesce since taking office, citing an IRS audit that has not yet been confirmed.

Last year, a leaked portion from Trump’s 1995 state tax return showed that Trump declared a near billion dollar loss that year, according to a story published by the New York Times in October.

NBC noted that there are similarities to the two leaks. On MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Johnston speculated that Trump himself could have potentially leaked the tax returns.

“You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago," the White House said in reaction to the leaked return. "Before being elected President, Mr. Trump was one of the most successful businessmen in the world with a responsibility to his company, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required.

"That being said, Mr. Trump paid $38 million dollars even after taking into account large-scale depreciation for construction, on an income of more than $150 million dollars, as well as paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes and this illegally published return proves just that.

"Despite this substantial income figure and tax paid, it is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. The dishonest media can continue to make this part of their agenda, while the President will focus on his, which includes tax reform that will benefit all Americans."

Additional details about the leak’s Westchester ties have not yet been released.

In addition to the $19.5 million Seven Springs estate in Bedford, the 45th president also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
